A Sedentary Lifestyle increases risk of Diabetes
A research study conducted by the University of Pittsburgh (published in the journal, Diabetologia) showed that people who lead a sedentary lifestyle have an increased risk of diabetes.
In this case the participants were asked to watch 140 minutes of TV a day, which produced an increased risk of 17 per cent. The more time spent watching, the greater the risk.
(Lead author Dr. Bonny Rockette-Wagner said there was ‘a significantly increased risk of developing diabetes with increased television watching (3.4 percent per hour spent watching television).’
Participants also spent spent at least two and a half hours doing exercise each week.
