Common chemicals that you come into contact with every day in your own home, are linked to increasing rates of diabetes and obesity. So says a report out from The Edocrine Society (click here).
The report found that there was an increasing and cumulative effect from Endocrine-Disruptive Chemicals (EDCs). These are chemicals that mimic the action of female or male hormones in the body. They may seemingly increase their levels, they may block receptor sites on cells where you want your natural hormones to act. They may even poison your helpful gut bacteria, stopping them making compounds that normally help you stay healthy. Indeed, there can be a host of ways EDCs screw up your body.
Of particular concern is the way EDCs mess with babies and children’s developing hormone systems.
EDCs – for example, Bisphenol A and phthalates from plasticisers, cosmetics, white liners in cans, pesticides and flame retardants – are ubiquitous and researchers warn of increasing levels in our blood streams. The majority come from the everyday toiletry and cosmetic products we now use.
“Exposure to EDCs can have long lasting and permanent effects’ said a spokesperson for the Society.
The World Health Organisation has already called on all governments to ban EDCs but their warnings have been ignored.
Readers are urged to vote with their feet and their wallets. It is essential to keep these highly poisonous toxins out of your life. Pharmacology Professor Andrea Gore of the University of Texas said that “The evidence is more definitive than ever” after this report which drew conclusions not just of issues such as cancer, but on diabetes and obesity too.
