Several Studies have linked lower IQs in children born to mothers with higher levels of environmental toxins in their blood streams
Pollutants, like those frequently found in pesticides, are increasingly being linked to lower IQs in children. But indirectly. It would seem that pregnant women with the highest levels of toxins in their blood streams, produce children with lower IQs.
One study, from UC Berekely School of Public Health (1), looked at exposure to levels normally found in everyday life! In other words, this was not a study where pregnant women had been exposed to extraordinary pesticide levels. This was normal consumption of levels that are approved by your Government.
In the mothers with greatest ‘nomal exposure’, their kids were 7% lower in IQ at age seven, than those with the lowest levels of ‘normal exposure’.
But the source of Environmental toxins doesn’t have to be pesticides – it can come from inside your own home – in the personal care, toiletry, and packaging you use. A study led by Pam Factor-Litvak, an associate professor of epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health (2) has shown similar declines in IQs of kids born to mothers with higher levels of phthalates in their blood streams whilst pregnant.
